About The Diving Den
|Tom Stough started his diving career with the Kokomo Fathom Masters in 1967. When the dive club started classes to certify divers, Tom took the class and was certified in 1971. Tom and his wife, Linda, bought the Diving Den from Denny Grishaw in 1973 and provided air fills, classes, and equipment for divers working from their garage. The first instructor was Gary Gulley. The business was built on their philosophy of a solid foundation of expert training and the insistence that safety was always first, but fun and good companionship was also a necessary ingredient.|
|Linda became certified to dive in 1974 to get a better understanding of the dive business. In 1977, Tom took his PADI Instructor training at ISU. That same year, The Diving Den made the move to the East Markland Avenue location, which for many of us will always be thought of as the "real" Diving Den. Linda took her instructor training in 1978 with the YMCA and later crossed over to PADI. Tom and Linda both became PADI Master Instructors, training over 3500 Indiana divers. For over 38 years they have been teachers, mentors, and friends to the diving community, roles they continue to occupy.|
New Faces, New Places
Hi everybody! We're Larry Krigbaum and Daelene Powers. With Tom and Linda's decision to
retire, The Diving Den is now entering a new stage in its history. As the new owners, Daelene and
I are quite conscious of the tradition and heritage that have passed to us. While there will be
many changes, we promise, with your help, to stay true to the legacy of The Diving Den.
The Diving Den will continue to be a full-service PADI-affiliated dive shop offering dive gear, instruction, repair and maintenance, dive travel, and air fills, and we will also continue to operate the diving concession at Kenith Quarry in France Park.
The Diving Den has become like a home to many of us, and we promise that we'll do our very best to continue the tradition of excellence that Tom and Linda have created and maintained over the years. So while this will be a time of transition for all of us, you can expect the same high quality of service and sense of community you've always found at The Diving Den. And if you don't feel like you're getting it, let us know and we'll make the changes to see that you do.
The Diving Den is now located at 311 Sagamore Parkway North in Lafayette at the intersection of Highway 26 and Sagamore Parkway in the same shopping center with Home Depot.
The new store has a comfortable showroom, dressing room, classrooms, service bench, and an air station accessible at the rear door for easy loading and unloading. We hope you'll stop by to say hello, take a look around, check out our gear offerings, or for any dive needs you may have. We'll see to it you're taken good care of.
Now... let's go get wet and have some fun!
